Intel preps mobile processors for higher clock speeds

Santa Clara (CA) – Intel is transitioning seven small-package Core 2 Duo CPUs as well as one Celeron M processor to new steppings, which will include “speed enhancements” for the Montevina notebook platform and lay the foundation for a higher clock speed, the company said.

The Core 2 Duo SL9300 (1.60 GHz), SL9400 (1.86 GHz), SP9300 (2.26 GHz) and SP9400 (2.40 GHz) will be moved from a C-0 stepping to E-0, while the Celeron M ULV 723 (1.2 GHz), Core 2 Solo SU3300 (1.20 GHz, single-core), Core 2 Duo SU9300 (1.20 GHz), and SU9400 (1.40 GHz) will switch from M-0 to R-0.

The effect of both stepping changes is the same – there are speed path improvements, which will enable higher frequency models, according to Intel. There are no electrical, mechanical or thermal changes. With the exception of the Celeron M model, the conversion affects only small package processors: SP models that focus on performance, SL version that have a greater focus on energy efficiency as well as SU versions that solely focus on energy efficiency. Intel defines SP processors as small-package CPUs with a thermal envelope of 20-29 watts, SL processors with 12-19 watts and SU processors with less than 12 watts.

We can’t really remember a time when Intel’s processor descriptions were as confusing as they are today, so here is a quick reminder what those cryptic prefixes mean:

Intel told its customers that samples of the new processors will be available by December 8 of this year. Volume shipments are set to begin on or after March 2 of next year. The company said that there will not be any form, fit and function changes between the stepping conversions, however, system builders will have to apply a BIOS update. This new BIOS will support the new stepping and the previous stepping.

Firefox Extensions

I'd stumbled upon two useful extensions for the famous Mozilla Firefox (click on the name to go to the download page):

Chromifox

Chromifox, from the developer of Camifox, is another blatant rip-off of another default theme from another great open source web browser! This time, the target is Google Chrome, or more specifically Chromium, the open source project behind it. The clean lines, slick layout, and compact style of Chromium were the points of inspiration for this theme. Chromifox offers a coat of Chrome for Firefox.

Lazy...Lazier...Laziest....

As per title, I am becoming lazier to do my work in this final month that I'll be in this company, maybe the thought of quitting has clouded my mind and preventing me to do my job properly.

I'm not sad leaving my work and to lose my job, it's just that my source of income will vanish as well, though it's not really a major problem (I'm not rich or anything), it's just that I don't use that much money to survive :-)

However, I'm not alone, a few of my friends had also chose the same path(resign) as me, some of them are going to find a new(better) job and some of them went back to their hometown. I was actually surprise as I thought I was the only one who had made this decision this fast.

There's a lot of things running through my head right now, my job is not that significant anymore but I hope that I can contribute something to the company before I leave.

Windows 7 Beta 1 Available December 2008

The constant wave of Windows 7 Beta chatter from Redmond, even without an official confirmation from Microsoft, is a clear indication that the company is gearing up to move the next iteration of the Windows client beyond the development milestone (M) stages.

With the Windows 7 roadshow approaching at a fast pace, as Microsoft is getting closer and closer to events such as the Professional Developer Conference 2008 (October), Windows Hardware Engineering Conference 2008 (November) and TechEd 2008 EMEA (November), the first Beta build of the operating system is starting to take contour. Still, Windows 7 Beta 1 will not make it to the October and November conferences, as it is planned for availability in mid-December 2008.

Microsoft has failed to either confirm or deny this piece of information at this point in time, but according to Mary Jo Foley, citing unnamed sources, Windows 7 beta 1 will drop just ahead of Christmas 2008. On Vista WinHEC 2008 homepage, Microsoft is claiming that Windows 7 “is coming soon” but doesn't give any indication of the actual deadline, although it is rushing hardware manufacturers to get ready for the operating system.

The Redmond giant released the first taste of Windows 7 back in December 2007. At that time, Milestone 1 was virtually indistinguishable from Windows Vista. Moving forward into the development process, the Redmond company has also produced a Milestone 2 Build of Windows 7, which was kept tight under wraps and wasn't leaked like M1. The next move as far as the evolution of Windows 7 is concerned is a Milestone 3 release, which in its turn will be followed by the first Beta build of the platform.

One thing is for sure, under the leadership of Steven Sinofsky, Senior Vice President, Windows and Windows Live Engineering Group, Windows 7 will have a short Beta life, approximately a year. Microsoft is reportedly not preparing a wide release of Windows 7 Beta until the client is either feature-complete or very close to the final version.

"The Week"

Last week was really a week of "fun nights" as I was only in my house for a few hours, working early in the morning and going out with my friends during the night. Well, the "working" was not really that much of fun but it was ok (still bearable).

The "fun" starts during the night, I went to my friend's house on Monday and Tuesday, just hanging out as usual, made a trip around Shah Alam, find some place to eat and went back to his house and chat till 1.00 - 2.00a.m in the morning (and I had to go to work at 6.30, not a problem really as I can secretly sleep at the office, hehehe...)

I'd posted what had happened on Wednesday in this blog previously, it was fun indeed and tiring as well.....

Had a reunion with my fellow Bachelor's classmates on Thursday, we finished early but one of my friends had this crazy idea to go for a midnight bowling and ended up going home at around 1.00a.m

We had a gathering on Friday, we celebrated one of our friend's birthday during that night, we had a lot of food, be it junk or fast food, I was really full and didn't even eat anything until the next day, in the afternoon.

Went to my aunt's house on Saturday, nothing much, only discussing some plans for the upcoming Raya holidays and watched some movies, I didn't even went home on that day, slept at my friend's house till the next day.

Sunday was the only day that I didn't went out during the night, I did went out during the day to go to the Church and the workshop, and just relaxing at home after that until the next day.

Well then, that is all for my post today and hope that there will be a lot more "nights" to come.

A Loooong Night

It was a long night yesterday, yes, a very looong night indeed, I went home at around 3.30 a.m in the morning. I was at my friend’s house chatting with her from Midnight till early in the morning.

And the sole reason I came was only to pay my fee for the conference that I’d joined the other day, but we talk and talk until her housemates went to sleep, one after the other. We’d never looked at the time, though 1 of our friends did mention that it was already 1 a.m in the morning at one point, we’d still continue to chat after that and I had only looked at the time when I get into my car.

I went to Serdang to find some places to eat with my other friend earlier that night (got lost during the finding process), and went to my friend’s house whom I chat with soon after that. I’d never thought that I’ll be there for such a long period of time.

It was a good chat, and we shared a lot of things that I’d never even thought of sharing (I was never a “gossip” kind of person, really??? Hehehe…..).

Anyway, it’s nice to have a person to talk to, just like my sister. Kinda miss my family during the conversation.

I’d only managed to sleep for 3 hours, had to go to work (pretty much energy”less” while typing this post).

How To: Add words next to the Taskbar Clock

FRIENDLY REMINDER:
Please do not alter any other entries in your registry editor unless you really, REALLY, know how to and what to alter. Please Follow this guide to the latter. I will not be held responsible if you altered more than was is supposed to be done and ruin your Windows Operating System. This is a simple STEP by STEP guide. So, PLEASE, again I remind you, Follow the STEPS that is provided. Thank You.

Here's a little guide on how to add fancy words beside your taskbar clock. I actually learned this while trying to clean out a virus which added some words beside the clock. Already tested it with both XP and Vista, and they WORK on BOTH! so NO worries! Anyway, without further adue, here goes!

  • Go to "Start" -> "Run"
  • Then type in "regedit" and click "OK" to enter into your registry editor.

Attached Image

  • On the LEFT side of the registry editor, go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" -> "Control Panel" -> "International"
  • Then, on the Right side of the registry editor, Double-Click on "sTimeFormat"
  • In the edit string's value data box, after the "h:mm:ss tt", press space, then enter the words you want to show.

Example: h:mm:ss tt Braynumb
Attached Image

  • After that, just click "OK" and just restart your PC, and VOILA! Words on your taskbar!

Attached Image

Attached Image

When using the letters h,m,s or t, the words that's set will change to numbers because it will follow the time format and the current time.
Eg: when time is 12:15:35pm and the word "My Honeys" is used, the words shown would be "15y 12ney35"

So far, there's no way to bypass this. So, try using words without those letters!

Cool eh? So, Enjoy yourself and try it out! but remember my reminder ok?

Cheers! rclxms.gif

4 minutes to go to Bed

It's already midnight and I was really hungry after I'd watch the Dark Knight for the 2nd time, so I went to the kitchen to find something to eat, I ate the fried mee that my friend cooked for our dinner before and drink milo to ease up the hungry"ness" of my stomach.
The food was good, well, everything taste good if you are hungry :-), but still didn't manage to fill up my stomach, I decided to postpone the "eating" as it's already late and I don't want to come in late for work tomorrow.
Hence, this blog writing will be the last activity for today (yesterday?) and I hope it will be a very good day tomorrow.

Microsoft spends big bucks to improve Vista image

THE VOLE IS frantically attempting to improve Vista’s terrible public image, and fend off attacks by rival Apple, using, no, not software improvements, but a series of television ads starring Jerry Seinfeld.

The ads, which will make not the slightest difference to Vista’s usability (or unusability for that matter) made their debut yesterday and also feature ex Volish big boss, Bill Gates.

Attempting to counter Apple’s ad campaign, which ridicules un-cool, un-hip, totally untrendy PC users, the Vole has decided to fight back. In a shoe store, of all places. ‘Why not a handbag store?’ you might well ask.

But as Imelda Markos knows well, shoes don’t come cheap and neither do the Vista ads, which are currently ‘running’ up a $300 million bill for the firm. This is obviously, however, a price MightySoft is willing to pay in the face of a growing Mac market share. Soaring up by 38 per cent from last year, Mac-usation currently stands at 8.5 per cent of all U.S. computer shipments.

Vista is not doing too badly though. The Vole says has managed to somehow sell over 180 million Vista licences since launching in 2007, but this has much to do with the system being pre-installed on many machines, rather than by dedicated consumer choice. Many people still see the OS as awkward, resource-heavy and infected with unfriendly DRM.

But this is an image the Redmond Giant is eager to change. Taking notes from its fruity rival, the Vole has also decreed it will soon be setting up "Windows Gurus" stands at major US electronic stores to attempt to persuade consumers that there are, in fact, actual benefits to using Windows.

In addition to the ads, the firm reckons it might - if it gets around to it - also make something of an effort to work with computer makers to optimise systems for better boot times and hopefully a better overall experience when having to use a Windows machine. We wonder if that will cost the same as Jerry Seinfeld though.

What a busy August!

Yes, it had been a very busy August indeed for me, not only I have to work during the weekdays, there's also plans for the weekends, it's not like I'm complaining about my life or anything, it's just that I haven't got the time to sleep in the afternoon (oh... how I miss doing that :-) ).

Now, it's already the 2nd week of September and the month of "Ramadhan" for the Muslims, they are require to fast during this whole month which includes me (though I'm not a Muslim), it's rather embaressing to eat and drink in front of your colleagues.

I'd been with them for two years now and this is the 3rd time I'd joined them, so I'd already pretty much get used to it.

This is my first post for September and my 1st update since last time, I want to put more stuff in my blog but still thinking of which "stuff" to "copy-paste" into it.

My Future Plan(s)?

This is my hopefully "jadi" short-term future plan(s):

  1. To finish the system that was assigned to me.
  2. To make as much money as I can.
  3. To buy things with my money :-).
  4. To complete my proposal for my Master's Degree.
  5. To complete my research on universities that I will apply to.
Well, that are my Top 5 things in my To-Do list, it's pretty simple to do if I have the knowledge and wisdom to do all those stuffs :-).

However, it is God who will be the decider in our life, so we don't need to worry about our life, present or future, as it will be taken care of, just do what we do according to His will.

5 + 4 days had past.......

It's already been 9 days since I'd begun my work, 5+4 to be exact, excluding weekends of course. The work was not that hard, only I haven't get used to the environment yet I guess, there no tension or stress at all, only boredom..... (for now).

Still haven't get used to work environment yet, I really missed my school days especially my secondary and diploma days, it really sucks to grow up (really!!), everyday when I wake up, I am hoping that some exciting things/events or anything will happen. The routine that I have now is really boring, it's not that my work is easy but to be frank, I really need some excitement in life (excluding dating and such).

Most of my friends had already returned to their hometown, some of them already started their job and getting on with their life, maybe I'm the only one who doesn't want to grow up just yet, there's still much more I want to do before I can be ready to grow up just like everybody.

So, for those who are still studying and has the title "Student" and living on a "Student Life", cherish that moment as it will go past you really, really fast.

Intel won't touch Vista

According to a memo circulating a few weeks ago, it looks like Intel is taking a wise decision and avoiding the Broken OS entirely. Yes, Intel is not going to use Vista on its corporate machines... ever.

When a company as tech savvy as Intel, with full source code access and having written several large chunks of the OS, says get stuffed, you know you have a problem. Well, everyone knows MS has a problem, but it is nice to see it codified in such a black and white way though. Reassuring, like a warm cup of tea, or a public kick to the corporate crown jewels.

The real question is what are they going to use? The official answer is 'nothing yet', the one where they try not to offend is 'likely Windows 7', delivered with a pained smile. Since that is shaping up to be Me II SP1a, I am not sure Intel will bite there either unless they suddenly develop a GPU that can run it in that time frame.

So that leaves two other choices, Linux and Mac. Linux is a distinct possibility, they already have an in-house distro that causes employees look nervously around the room when you talk about it. Although it is not a desktop variant, there is no reason that they could not roll one given two years.

The other one is the big white horse in the corner, Mac OS. If there was ever a company that is loyal to Intel, it is Apple. If there was ever a company that could make MacOS work internally, it is Intel. While any marriage with the turtlenecked sociopath is a match made in hell, don't count this one out either.

In the end, you have Intel flipping MS the bird, and telling them what they already know, Vista in undeployable by anyone with a grain of common sense. The impressive thing is that it just might lead to a waving off of MS entirely, they are the underdog for the next round of upgrades.

"Get Smart" Movie Review

As promise, I will give my thoughts on this movie that I'd recently watched, I'll try to be not too biased on the movie as I personally really love it :)

THE STORY OVERALL

The synopsis for Get Smart looks something like this: “Bungling secret agent Maxwell Smart, also known as Agent 86 for CONTROL, is on a mission to battle the forces of their evil crime nemesis known as KAOS with his more-competent partner Agent 99, (whose real name is never revealed) at his side. When the headquarters of U.S. spy agency Control is attacked and the identities of its agents compromised, the Chief has no choice but to promote his ever-eager analyst Maxwell Smart, who has always dreams of working in the field alongside stalwart superstar Agent 23. Smart will do whatever it takes to thwart the latest plot for world domination by KAOS.”

MY REVIEW

First of all, let's talk about the story, yes, the story line and plot was good, like I said, I really love the movie. Many well-known actor are cast for the movie, Steve Carell as Max, you may recognize him as the Boss in the comedy show "The Office", Anne Hathaway as Agent 99 and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Agent 23, seems like he's more into comedies nowadays.

The story really did a good job in balancing the "Action" and the "Comedy" part of the movie and sometimes you just need the face-reaction of Steve Carell to laugh, he really did a good job at his "serious" comedy like he did in "The Office". Anne Hathaway was/IS HOT and I just can't take my eyes of her, she really has shown maturity in her acting.

The movie was really "made" by all the cast of the movie (obviously) but then again, without a proper casting, a good story will turn out bad. Therefore, I salute all the "casters" out there. Although, the hero and heroin have an obvious age difference but it will be covered by the story and the comedy of the movie.

There are many scenes that not only funny but it will tickle your funny bone just thinking about it, (hahaha, thinking about one now).

I'm not going to give any spoilers for this movie but I recommend it anyone who are in the mood for laughs right now or if you are in a different mood, surely this movie will change it.

Personally, I'll give the movie a 10 out of 10 but it was just me, go and watch the movie and rate it yourself.

The Same Old Night

Haha, just another boring night, went to church in the morning and watched a movie with my friends in the afternoon, but as usual, there's nothing much to do at night, the petrol hike has limited our "strolling" during night time.

Well, there's a lot of things that I can do right now but am too lazy to do it, maybe I'll do review for the movie that we'd watched today, the title was called "Get Smart". If you had watched the movie, you will know how funny the movie was, Steve Carell just can't get out from his role as the boss in "The Office".

I'll need some time to do the review, but eventually (???) I'll get it done.

Highway Jam

I just got back from my aunt's house and I arrived at my house 1 hour longer than it usually is, why? because of the traffic jam that occurred at the highway, I don't even know what was the cause of the event, there was an accident involving a Myvi and ???? but the line was stretch farther than the accident scene, I mean much much farther than the place of event :?

Well, there's was another thing that made the traffic jam, it was the late night work for patching up the road, and there was two large trailer that was blocking one of the lane of the road.

However, the traffic was smoothed out after passing the trailers and everybody was like from 40km/h to 110km/h and just whoosh away, I was no exception :), managed to get home in few minutes.

My legs were very tired from the traffic jam as I was driving a manual but I am grateful that nothing bad happen during that time, did I mention that I was rather sleepy during the incident?

Intel shows Cache-Quadding Technology

If you’ve been following Intel’s achievements over the past few years, you’ll have noticed that Chipzilla is they are repeatedly reaching the design limit on a few elements in their chips. The latest example had been the leaky 45nm process, which they bathed in Hafnium and gave high-K metal gates. Now Intel is trying to push cache to a guesstimated 3 to 4 times its current capacity by using Floating Body Cells (FBC).

Floating Body Cells have nothing to do with corpses bobbing up and down in the Hudson River. It’s all about SOI, and although Intel didn’t like IBM/AMD’s SOI back in the daze they like it enough now that they need it. The FBC (your bit of storage) hangs under the gate and over the 10nm thin buried oxide (BOX) layer, meaning its small, simple (ie: cost effective) and – from what we garner, won’t suffer from the electric shortcomings of current DRAM designs. Intel also says it’s a bit more scalable than previous caches. This would also, potentially, lead to a new species of DRAM some time down the line, but Intel’s business isn’t about building DRAM, it’s about building CPUs.

Intel is plugging this as the next-gen of cache, with lower costs and higher density. The technology itself has been discussed and worked on by other companies for a few years now (the oldest we can remember was Tosh presenting the same FBC tech, albeit with fewer refinements, at VLSI 2003).

One of the missionaries also presented the next transistor technology: High-K + Metal Gate strain-enhanced. Intel is counting on this tech to improve yields and shave some costs off CPU production – an all-round win-win situation, we guess.

Unfortunately the above techs are still a work-in-progress, and Intel didn’t talk timelines – the slideware, however, does say that FBC is suitable for “15nm node and beyond” (about 3-4 years in our calendar) and High K+strained metal gate is the “best transistor results for any published 45nm or 32nm technology" , which sounds like right about… uhmm… now? So you'd expect the Nehalem family to feature this tech as it launches.

Double Your Firefox Speed

Here are some Tips & Tricks that may help you to double the speed of the Firefox (all versions):

1. Go to the configuration file of Firefox:

  • Type about:config in the address bar and then press Enter
2. Configure the pipelining feature:
  • In the filter search bar, type network.http.pipelining. Be sure the value field is set as True, double-click to do so. Pipelining reduces the page loading time, however not all servers support this feature.
  • Then, go back to the filter search bar and type network.http.pipelining.maxrequests. Double-click the option and set its value to 8.
  • In the filter search bar again, type network.http.proxy.pipelining. Double-click the option and set it to True.
3. Type network.dns.disableIPv6 in the filter search bar and set this option to True by double clicking on it.

4. Content Interrupt Passing
This preference controls if the application will interrupt parsing a page to respond to UI events. It does not exist by default.
  • Right-click anywhere in the about:config window, select New and then Boolean from the pop-up menu.
  • Enter content.interrupt.parsing in the New boolean value pop-up window and click OK.
  • When prompted to choose the value for the new boolean, select True and click OK.
5. Rather than waiting for a page to completely downloaded to display it to the user, Mozilla applications will regularly render what has been received to that point. This option controls the maximum amount of time the application will be unresponsive while rendering pages.
  • Right-click anywhere in the about:config window, select New and then Integer from the pop-up menu.
  • Enter content.max.tokenizing.time in the New integer value pop-up window and click OK.
  • You will be prompted to enter a value. Enter 2250000 and click OK.
6. Content Notify Interval
This option sets the minimum amount of time to wait between reflows.
  • Right-click anywhere in the about:config window, select New and then Integer from the pop-up menu.
  • Type content.notify.interval in the New integer value pop-up window and click OK.
  • You will be prompted to enter a value. Enter 750000 and click OK.
7. Content Notify OnTimer
This option sets to reflow pages at an interval any higher than that specified by content.notify.interval.
  • Right-click anywhere in the about:config window and select New and then Boolean from the pop-up menu.
  • Type content.notify.ontimer in the New boolean value pop-up window and click OK.
  • You will be prompted to choose the value for the new boolean. Select True and click OK.

8. Notify Backoffcount

This option controls the maximum number of times the content will do timer-based reflows. After this number has been reached, the page will only reflow once it is finished downloading.
  • Right-click anywhere in the about:config window and select New and then Integer from the pop-up menu.
  • Enter content.notify.backoffcount in the New integer value pop-up window and click OK.
  • You will be prompted to enter a value. Enter 5 and click OK.

9. Content Switch Threshold

You can interact with a loading page when content.interrupt.parsing is set to True. When a page is loading, the application has two modes: a high frequency interrupt mode and a low frequency interrupt mode. The first one interrupts the parser more frequently to allow for greater UI responsiveness during page load. The low frequency interrupt mode interrupts the parser less frequently to allow for quicker page load. The application enters high frequency interrupt mode when you move the mouse or type on the keyboard and switch back to low frequency mode when you had no activity for a certain amount of time. This preference controls that amount of time.
  • Right-click anywhere in the about:config window and select New and then Integer from the pop-up menu.
  • Enter content.switch.threshold in the New integer value pop-up window and click OK.
  • You will be prompted to enter a value. Enter 750000 and click OK.

10.
Since the start of a web page normally doesn't have much useful information to display, Mozilla applications will wait a short interval before first rendering a page. This preference controls that interval.
  • Right-click anywhere in the about:config window and select New and then Integer from the pop-up menu.
  • Enter nglayout.initialpaint.delay in the New integer value pop-up window and click OK.
  • You will be prompted to enter a value. Enter 0 and click OK.

Sooo much to write about in this blog and yet there's so little energy in my body to do so, "To write or not to write, that IS the ultimate question", but I'll try to write anything that I can that comes out in my mind.

Truth to be told, I want to write anything about Technology, be it hardware or software, and maybe a little bit on animation and manga, but seeing how this blog has progressed, looks like I'll be sticking with "nonsense" for the time-being.

Blog, blog, blog..........

Again, what's up thhaaaaaat.............

What a night!

I'd just came back hanging out with some of my classmates and it was a very wonderful 'event', well I'm not going to talk what kind of 'event' that was but I assure you that it was a typical 'hanging out' session and none of 'that' kind of things happen.

As always, there's things to share with your friends and tonight was one of those time that you wish to have everyday during your youth. (Not that I'm already old btw)

However, being with friends is the third thing that I treasure the most, apart from being with God and my families. I am very grateful for everything that I have/had in life right now, although there's always will be up's and down's in life but still life is very precious and I'm really enjoying it right now, as a average guy for now and not as a filthy rich man. (soon to be maybe?)

I know this is only my second post for this blog and the title already contradicted the content, but hey, as a person would say it "this is my blog and I can write whatever I want!" and such.

"Live Life to the Fullest and Never Regret Anything, Learn from It"

My First Ever Post! (M.F.E.P)

This is basically my first ever post that I ever posted in/on/at a blog, hehe, for this is my first ever blog that I have decided to create during my free-time while undergoing the MCSA course.

Well, there's really nothing much to say for this post (just like any other M.F.E.P that was posted by many blogger before this), I really just do this out of boredom (yeah right! hehehe........).

Anywho, my so-called "free-time" is almost over and my labmate is busy"ing" himself in reading some online manga on the net. (and I'm going to join him, wahahaha!!!!)

So, anyone who had read this M.F.E.P, thank you and congratulation as YOU are one of the first readers/visitors to my blog.
